Very much in line with the philosophy to the “teach less, and learn more” approach in education of the young, we have been planning the Chinatown Heritage Experience programme in a self-discovery and learning mode. While we want to excite the students with the vast width and depth of heritage knowledge, we are mindful that the most important lesson is in stirring the spirit within them to want to discover and to find out facts and information for themselves. The Chinatown Heritage Experience book encompasses a wide range of topics: the life of Chinatown in the past and present, and also very importantly the real stories of some elderly folks. A personal experience, a visit to an elderly home in their spartan state, a walkabout to feel the ambience of the historical sites - all these are valuable history lessons. It is a lesson of the heart, and we hope that each student could be challenged to be an Ambassador for Chinatown. At the same time, the donation drive held in parallel with the project will allow students to raise financial support towards our operating budget, in serving poor needy Chinatown clients through our community services. We believe that students, when engaged with and understanding the cause, will be better advocates for the worthy cause before them.Back to Chinatown Heritage Experience main menu…
