About *Praveen: A Second Home
Jul 22, 2026

For the first four years of his life, Praveen, a bright and energetic child, had limited opportunities for early learning and development due to his family’s financial circumstances and citizenship status. With demanding work schedules, his parents were unable to provide the structured care and enrichment he needed. Much of his day was spent watching television, while his caregivers juggled their own responsibilities, leaving little opportunity for meaningful interaction.
That all changed when Praveen joined Kukoh+, a childminding service by night run by Yong-en in 2024. Through this programme, Praveen found a safe and nurturing space where he could explore, learn, and grow. The staff at Kukoh+ adopted a child-centred approach, where Praveen was encouraged to engage in play, discovery, and creative activities that sparked his curiosity.
Since joining, Praveen’s transformation has been remarkable. His confidence has soared as he engaged in group activities with peers and began developing crucial social skills. He learned to share, express himself more clearly, and participate in cooperative play which were skills he was unable to develop at home. His behavioural improvements were evident, and even small milestones, like always washing his hands before eating, became sources of pride for him.
“Praveen is more well-mannered now. At Kukoh+, he has learned to share his things with his peers. He exhibits very good behaviours and is more active at home,” shared Kareena, his stepsister.
Praveen’s excitement to attend Kukoh+ each day is palpable. He often tells his family how much he enjoys being at “his second home” and eagerly looks forward to returning. Beyond supporting his developmen, the programme also gave him a sense of purpose and belonging.
Today, Praveen is better prepared for preschool, and his family no longer carries the same worries about his development. With the reassurance that he is learning and thriving in a safe environment, his parents are able to focus on work while his sisters concentrate on their studies. Together, they can look forward to a brighter future.
Praveen is now on track for preschool, with a strong foundation for the future. His journey demonstrates how, with the right support and opportunities, every child has the potential to thrive.
For 30 years, Yong-en has journeyed alongside families through different seasons of life. Praveen’s story is a reminder that when families are strengthened, children are given the opportunity to grow. Sometimes, all it takes is a safe place to belong, caring adults who believe in them, and a community that walks alongside them, one small step at a time.
